Charmspring's Gratitude Book List
A collection of books to inspire a meaningful family gratitude practice.
With Thanksgiving approaching, it’s the perfect time to add some books about gratitude to the family bookshelf. Here are some of our favorites that spark meaningful conversations about what it means to be thankful.
Grow Grateful
by Jon Lasser and Sage Foster-Lasser, Illustrations by Christopher Lyles
This children’s book begins by acknowledging that we sometimes experience two very different emotions—like excitement and nervousness—at the same time. Throughout a class camping trip, each character expresses what they are grateful for, from a colorful sunset to the company of a friend while hiking up a steep mountain ridge. The authors have included additional resources to support your family’s gratitude practice.
Last Stop on Market Street
by Matt de la Peña, Illustrations by Christopher Robinson
Towards the end of this book, the main character “wondered how his nana always found beautiful where he never thought to look.” After reading together, invite your child to share something “beautiful” that they noticed today. Be sure to share your “beautiful” too.
The Thankful Book
by Todd Parr
This delightful book is perfect for sharing with toddlers and young children! Featuring bright, playful illustrations, this story inspires kids to appreciate the simple, everyday things and moments in their lives.
Thank You, Omu!
by Oge Mora
Drawn by the mouthwatering aroma of stew, everyone in the neighborhood gathers at Omu’s door. Omu, whose name means “queen” in the Igbo language of the author’s parents, lovingly serves her delicious meal to all who visit. But when dinnertime arrives, Omu discovers she has no stew left for herself! This heartfelt and beautifully illustrated tale celebrates generosity, community, and the idea that kindness always comes full circle—because taking care of each other truly matters.
We Are Grateful: Ostaliheliga
by Traci Sorell and illustrated by Frane Lessac
Written by award-winning Cherokee author Traci Sorell, this stunning book takes readers on a journey through the seasons within a lively Cherokee community, offering a glimpse into Cherokee tradition. Woven throughout the story is the word "ostaliheliga", used by the Cherokee Nation to express gratitude.
The Thank You Book
by Mo Willems
This “thank-o-rama” is a must-read for all Elephant & Piggie fans! Join Gerald and Piggie as they thank a familiar cast of characters for their unique traits, talents, and friendship. They’ll even thank you, the reader!
